TPU Quest Remaster Released!

Hey everyone!

I’m excited to share that I’ve finally released the remaster of my old game — TPU Quest — on itch.io! 🎉

This little project has a special place in my heart. The original TPU Quest was made 11 years ago as a coursework project during my time at Tomsk Polytechnic University. Back then, I used the HaxePunk engine and was just figuring out how to make games.

It was a simple platformer prototype, but I got a bit carried away — I even added a built-in level editor, Android support, and a basic network arena mode (yep, I was ambitious 😄). Here’s a screenshot of that old-school level editor for nostalgia vibes:

Fast forward to August 2024 — I decided to bring this project back to life as a remaster. The main goal? Learn Godot. I’ve been wanting to dive into this engine for a while, and TPU Quest felt like the perfect playground. I already had assets, ideas, and a clear scope — no need to reinvent the wheel.

The remaster was a “slow and steady” kind of project. Between work and life, it took me a bit over half a year to wrap it up. As someone who’s been working as an Android developer for years now, looking back at my old code was… an experience. 😅 Let’s just say, 19-year-old me really loved spaghetti — not just on the plate, but in code too.

While the new version is definitely cleaner and benefits from 11 years of programming experience, I’ll admit — there’s still room to improve the game’s architecture. Making it more flexible and scalable is on my to-do list, but for now, I’m happy with how it turned out.

If you’re curious, the source code is available on GitHub. Feel free to poke around, give feedback, or just have a laugh at how things evolved.

So yeah, that’s the story of TPU Quest’s comeback. It’s simple, a bit rough around the edges, but it’s mine — and now it’s out there again.

Thanks for reading, and if you give the game a try — let me know what you think!

Cheers,

Mike
